    Alice in Waterland Art

This project is officially launching in January 2018, but in my head and drafts on papers started already in early 2016. The project represents a return to my childhood, to the stories that I imagined as a child , stories that my mother read to me, that I have always dreamed about. It is set in the Waterland, environment, which mean so much for me, where I feel at home, into the magical, uncharted depths, into the land of the endless water.

  • Honor my husband

    Image

In 1981, I moved to Milwaukee to finish my undergraduate work. Coming from a small city, I was lost in the vastness of big city life. I knew virtually no one and by chance heard on the radio about a dating service. With hesitancy, I signed up. After having gone out with various gentlemen, on a particular first date a night in September 1982, Cupid struck. The minute I laid eyes on Jim, I knew I would marry him. On May. 1, 2024, after 42 years of marriage, I lost the love of my life.

    Eternal lights flicker
    In a distant sky.
    Where have you gone;
    Why did you die?

    When I first saw you,
    You stole my heart,
    And until this awful day,
    We have never been apart.

    I look to the heavens,
    Hoping to see you anew.
    Where have you gone?
    I'm searching for you.

    My painful cries
    Fill the dark of night.
    I need your arms
    To hold me tight.

    Where have you gone?
    Show me the place
So I can once again see
    The smile on your face.

    We met life's challenges
    And somehow made it through.
But how do I do it
    Alone without you?

I know you are in my heart,
But I long to see your face.
    Memories of yesterday
    Leave only a trace.

    There's emptiness now
    That nothing can fill.
I so need to find you
So I, too, can be still.

    Laura Clairmont

Laura Clairmont is award winning underwater photographer, cinematographer and painter. Originally from Czech republic, currently based in U.S., after twenty years of living in different parts of the world. She grew up exposed to art and culture through the passion of her dad’s dark room and her mom’s fairy tales and story books. She started diving at the age of twenty-two and has never stopped. To show her mom that the underwater world was a safe one, she purchased her first little point and shoot camera to bring back images to share. She quit her job in corporate and decided to follow her dreams through photography, diving and painting. Laura is specialised in underwater portraits and creating unique underwater sets for her clients and especially for her personal projects. She call it „food for my soul“. Her images have been published world wide, in magazines, album covers and book covers. Using her multitalented capabilities, each image is the result of a vision, a note, a drawing, a memory followed by a complex work of creating her own costumes and props, make-ups, drawing and painting her own backgrounds and coordinating people above and below the water. Photography is in a way a very small part of the entire creative process that sees Laura involved in each and every aspect with the same energy and passion. Laura is mostly known for her photography work, but she works as well as cinematographer or underwater supervisor and coach for film and advertising industry. She is also coaching her students worldwide. Her free time she devote to her dearest hobby, and this is painting. Laura’s paintings are full of fantasy a personal feelings, inspired by pop surrealistic art, mostly fairytales and Big Eyes. She is using mixed technique, mainly oil on desk. Laura is available for photography and motion worldwide.

  • Alice in Waterland - Making of

I believe that everyone has a small child inside, whatever age we are. Very often we forget this and push it away. I would like for the people watching my images to be in a magical Waterland, where gravity and rules do not exist. I would like to take them back for a moment to their childhood dreams, forgetting the hard reality of life and for a second to believe in magic again. With Love, laura
